Due to COVIS-19 The Fleurieu Coast Visitor Centre has suspended its face to face Visitor Services

The information regarding COVID-19 has evolved quickly in recent days, with new restrictions introduced to protect the health and safety of the community.  The District Council of Yankalilla is actively monitoring these developments and introducing measures consistent with the advice of State and Federal Governments.

As a precaution to slow the spread of COVID-19 in the wider community and to protect our volunteers and staff, we have decided to suspend the face to face visitor service at the Fleurieu Coast Visitor Centre from 4pm Sunday 22nd March 2020 until further notice.

Our team will continue to service visitors and the community Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm via email, phone, social media and through the Visit Fleurieu Coast Website.

Family History

With a colonial history dating back to the 1840's many people can trace their family history back to the Yankalilla district. The Centre sells a number of local history books that are of interest to family history researchers. These include:

  • To Find the Way - Yankalilla and District 1836-1986 by Roy Williams
  • The Second Valley by Ron Blum
  • Schools of the Western Fleurieu Peninsula
  • Christie Family History
  • Lush Family History
  • Early Settlers of the Yankalilla District
  • Old Yankalilla
  • Old Normanville

Historic cemeteries are situated in Yankalilla, Normanville and Bullaparinga. Information on the grave sites at the Bullaparinga Cemetery are kept at the Visitor Centre for public viewing. Council also maintains a cemeteries register which is available for public viewing.

If you have a family history question send an email to: tourism@yankalilla.sa.gov.au and we may be able to point you in the right direction.
